How Do Restaurants Get Cockroaches?

Cockroaches have been on this earth far longer than we have. They have been here since before the dinosaurs and they will be here long after we are gone. Considered the only creature that could survive a nuclear winter and a nuclear explosion they are truly the most vicious and difficult to control infestation in the world. They cost every country in the world billions in damages from lost food stores to health problems caused by their presence in a building. When cockroach eggs hatch they are not grubs, they do not have any sort of transformation in their growth. When the egg hatches a tiny cockroach climbs out, and with no need for parenting it already knows where and how to hid, where to find food and water and how to do while avoiding humans. Cockroaches are dangerous to your health as well as this growth process happens through moulting. The membranous cockroach moult is light enough to float in the air and can fill the air with millions of fragments. These fragments are tainted with deadly bacteria that can be inhaled and cause damage to your lungs in the form of sepsis or respiratory issues. This can affect people with preexisting conditions much more severely and can be fatal for someone who very old and very sick.

Now cockroaches can live on the ground or in the sewers and in either place they can smell food from miles around. They will crawl through sewer pipes and come up into the restaurant from inside of the drain. They can also enter easily through the doors of the restaurant which are constantly opened and closed. This means cockroaches have no issue entering restaurants and accessing the garbage and the food. So normal is this that it is made into a joke in the film, with frustrated chefs ignoring a cockroach falling into the soup.

This is one of the largest of the common cockroach species and they have voracious appetites. They produce eggs rapidly and can spread across a restaurant in days. This is the only common cockroach that is native to America and the cockroach worshiped by the ancient cultures of South America. This cockroach is terrifyingly large and very aggressive. It is one of the few cockroach species that will hunt for food in the day time.

If you see a cockroach in a restaurant it is important to call the health inspector because if the cockroaches are showing themselves in daylight it means the infestation is probably out of control, and that is not allowed in Ontario. Make sure to pay attention to the cleanliness and quality of the restaurant interior because that is usually a good sign if they can afford professional cockroach treatments or if they try to handle it on their own. The latter is the one you do not want to eat.
